Lisa’s family has lived in Utah for
generations, and she has spent most of her life in the
Sandy/Draper area. She has served her community in many
ways, including helping to establish and maintain a
Neighborhood Watch program, training for the Community
Emergency Response Team, and volunteering many hours at her
children’s school and within her church community.
Lisa has been an active advocate for
citizens’ rights, educational opportunities, and public
accountability, and she has worked in a bipartisan way to
effect positive changes in public policy. She helped
organize Utahns for Public Schools and an unprecedented
grassroots petition drive. As spokesperson for the
anti-voucher campaign, she educated voters about the flaws
in last year’s voucher proposal. As Executive Director of
UTPS, she continues to work on ways to strengthen public
schools and improve ethical standards in government. These
would be among her highest priorities in the Utah
Legislature.
Like their three children, Lisa and her husband, Craig,
attended Utah public schools. She received bachelor’s
degrees in English and Russian and a master’s degree in
linguistics from Brigham Young University. She enjoys
teaching as part-time faculty at BYU.
